Flowers by Post A Personal Review

June 21st, 2010

Hi everyone,

I am interested in flowers by post from Guernsey and Jersey in the Channel Islands, I was in the business myself for over 30 years but am now retired. Still, I find myself often looking at what is going on over here in the postal flowers world and thought maybe you would appreciate some comment on the top 3 of the companies and which one I choose as best.

Cut to the chase and click the link here if you are in a hurry:   my  flowers by post top choice – they have a rather low priced offer on at the moment.

Flowers by post have a few advantages by being in Guernsey and Jersey, one is that due to not having any VAT over here, the prices in general are lower for the same amount of flowers. Also the slightly warmer climate and quality of light give good growing conditions and produce strong plants.

It isn’t just the amount of flowers though, nor even just the prices, most of us want to be sure that what gets sent on our behalf will be really good, really fresh and well presented. Some companies are better than others at this.

There are several flowers by post companies here in Guernsey and several in Jersey, there used to be a lot more, but only the best of them survive in this financial climate, I know most of them personally and have to be a bit careful what I choose to say but I can at least draw up a hierachy of which I consider to be the best 3 and for what reason.

So here goes:

The top flowers by post company in my personal opinion is  -   http://www.Blooms of Guernsey.com

Flowers by post experts John & Beth

See who you are dealing with! John & Beth of Blooms of Guernsey

My comments:

This company is small – an advantage for you, just John and Beth who have years of experience, they grow a lot of their own flowers which is really good for giving unusual varieties, obviously these are fresh picked, they simply go and pick flowers when orders come in, this helps keep prices down too. It will be either of them who answer the phone 01481 263284.

It means that what you get is going to last well, they also collect flowers from other local growers and as Guernsey is so small, there are no long journeys to spoil freshness.

The last comment is that they do fuss about how the flowers will look in the box, ribbons, nice card, it all is important for the recipient to get a wow factor when opening their gift.

It is good to be ‘in the know’  for a good reliable postal flowers company, but being small it can be a problem to find,  many people will never discover them, so if you want to send flowers UK, good ones that is, you’re in!

Tell ‘em I sent you!

Next in my personal opinion comes:

St Saviours Nurseries.

Ted and Wendy with their daughter run this one, it has been around for many years and they know what they are doing. Their flowers are good and well packed, I like the way they look and I personally know they care.  They used to grow a lot of flowers which gives them good experience in the industry, not so much now, but again, they buy from other local growers so everything is fresh.

Next in my personal opinion comes:

Flying Flowers, it pains me to mention a company from ‘the other island’ ie Jersey, but these are the biggies in flowers by post and I should include them in my top 3.  They have good selections, good pricing and a large call centre to take orders. This means that you will have a lot of choice. The size of this operation can be a disadvantage as well though, your gift will be one of many going through the systems.  Still, if you want a very large range from which to make your choice, this is where to go.

Cheers, Cecilia.
